Solidarity with Laurentian University

Dear members,

We are passing along a message from the Canadian Association of University Teachers

When Laurentian University filed for court protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, it began a closed-door process to determine the future of the institution. The implications for faculty, students and Indigenous and francophone minority access to post-secondary education in Ontario are grave.

With this process concluding in April, time is running out to impact the outcome.

As faculty at a bilingual university, we must raise our voices and call on the federal government to step up and provide emergency funding to save Laurentian University.

Join your colleagues on Thursday, April 1 at 10am for a virtual phone bank to call on Member of Parliament Mona Fortier to standup for the importance of French language institutions across the country.

In just 30 minutes, we can show our support for our colleagues at Laurentian and put pressure on the federal government to provide the funding required to support Francophone and bilingual post-secondary institutions.
