The APUO Negotiation Team has been diligently engaged in discussions with the Employer to secure a strong collective agreement. The teams met for three days of bargaining in person on July 14, 15 and 16.
The parties mainly discussed Continuing Special Appointment Professor (CSAP) issues, librarian issues, and grievance procedures. They also addressed the following issues:
- workload and complement;
- participation, transparency and accountability in decision-making (governance);
- childcare spaces on campus.
Many of you have contacted the APUO to express concerns about the employer proposal to add the following provision to article 21 on Rights and responsibilities:
21.1.3 A Faculty Member shall:
[…]
i) be present on campus for the majority of the work week from Monday to Friday during the normal business hours of the University throughout a term in which they are teaching, and as frequently as is required by their department chair during their non-teaching terms.
Please be assured that the APUO bargaining team has clearly communicated to the Employer’s team that this proposal is unacceptable.
The Negotiation Team looks forward to more in-depth discussions. Further negotiation sessions are planned for August 17, 18, and 19 and August 25, 26, and 27.
In the meantime, the APUO has struck its Work Action Committee. The committee members are:
