APUO Receives Strong and Clear Strike Mandate

Members have voted 80.9% in favour of authorizing the Executive Committee to call a strike if necessary. 1026 ballots were cast, 830 voted “Yes” and 196 voted “No”.

This overwhelming show of solidarity sends a powerful message: we are united, determined, and ready to stand up for our university’s mission. By coming together and demonstrating our collective strength, we are making it clear that we will not settle for anything less than a fair deal that prioritizes high quality education and research, sustainable workloads, and democratic decision-making.

This strong and clear mandate is our signal to the employer that it’s time to meet our key demands. Conciliation is scheduled to continue January 15, 16 and 17. Due to the binding timelines associated with the conciliation process the parties are currently engaged in, the earliest possible timing for a strike will be the first week of February 2025.

In the meantime, our collective power grows when we work together to be strike-ready. If you are interested in becoming a picket captain, you can register here.

We will keep you updated on any developments and next steps in our negotiations.
