Panel Event and Important Information

Panel Event: Normal Teaching Load of Regular Members

In our April 16 bulletin, we shared the Final Report from the Joint Working Group on the Normal Teaching Load of Regular Members. In response to the high level of Member interest, we are hosting a panel event to discuss the key takeaways from the report.

You are invited to attend this event, which will take place on Monday, May 27 from 2:30 pm to 4 pm in the Tabaret Senate room (TBT 083)

We suggest you access the Senate room (TBT 083) using the entrance located on Waller Street, facing OC Transpo’s Laurier Station. An APUO staff person will be outside of Tabaret to help direct Members to the room. Members requiring assistance, or who have any other questions about the event, can email apuo@apuo.ca

Advisory: Workday Requests

More than one year has passed since the University of Ottawa transitioned to Workday, and problems with the system continue unabated. Most recently, the APUO has learned of several instances where Members used Workday to request such things as, but not limited to, accommodations, family and university leaves, promotion and tenure, retirement, and workload reductions, only for their requests to go unaddressed.

The APUO advises that when making requests pertaining to any matter set out in the Collective Agreement (CA) you should, in accord with the processes specified in the CA, begin by first directly advising your respective Dean in writing. We do not recommend relying on Workday to have matters relating to the Collective Agreement dealt with appropriately in a timely manner.

Reminder: Articles 23.1.2 and 23.1.2.2

We remind you that, as per Article 23.1.2 of the Collective Agreement, you have from April 1 to June 1 to submit your annual reports. You are under no obligation to submit any materials prior to June 1, 2024.

We also remind you that the only information that is required to be included in the annual reports is specified in Article 23.1.2.2 of the CA:

Each Member shall include in her annual report a general description of the scholarly activities to which she intends to devote a portion of her time during the next academic year, it being understood that these may change due to circumstances not foreseen at the time of filing the report. Furthermore, a Member eligible to apply for tenure or promotion in the next academic year shall indicate her intention to do so, if known. A Member who intends to apply for tenure or promotion may submit the information related to outside evaluators as specified in articles 23.3.2.4 and 23.3.2.5.
