Ottawa airport taxi drivers’ labour dispute

Dear APUO members,

September 15, 2015 – Since August 11, there has been a labour dispute at the Ottawa airport. According to Unifor Local 1688, which represents taxi drivers, the Ottawa airport authority wants Coventry Connections (the city’s largest taxi firm) to increase dispatch fees paid by drivers fivefold. The taxi drivers have withheld fees since August 1, but have continued to serve their customers. In response, the airport authority locked them out. While the labour dispute is ongoing, APUO members may want to consider taking alternative means of transportation to and from the airport, such as OCTranspo (it takes about 40 minutes from the Glebe, for example) or personal transportation. For more information, please see the attached leaflet.

With kind regards,

The APUO Executive Committee
