1) Tuition Exemption Benefit Deadline

As per Article 40.6.2 of the Collective Agreement, any Member’s spouse, child or dependent registered in a government-funded regular program of study1 at the University of Ottawa is entitled to an exemption from tuition fees. The conditions for this benefit are outlined in article 40.6.2.2 to article 40.6.2.5.

Members wishing to apply for this benefit must do so by the end of the first month of each session. Upcoming deadlines are as follows:

  • January 31 for the winter session
  • May 31 for the spring session
  • July 31 for the summer session
  • September 30 for the fall session

If you are planning to apply for the winter session for your spouse, child or dependant, please be aware that the deadline of January 31 is fast approaching. Do not hesitate to reach out to apuo@apuo.ca should you have any questions.

2) Take Action: Open Letter for a Commission on Humanities at uOttawa

As we reported in our December 1 bulletin on program suspensions, members in the Department of Classics and Religious Studies responded to suspensions in the Faculty of Arts by launching an open letter asking the Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs to establish a commission to study the place of the humanities at uOttawa. We invite you to show your support by filling out this form

The APUO is still inviting members to share any information regarding program suspensions by writing to apuo@apuo.ca. The union can support you in mobilizing a response and connect you with colleagues fighting for a university that offers a broad variety of programs in various disciplines.

3) Reminder: Free Courses Offered by OLBI

We wish to remind you of the free courses and workshops offered by Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI). As explained in our December bulletin, OLBI offers language training as part of your benefits. Take a placement test and then register for a winter term language course.

OLBI is also running an intensive workshop, Participating in a Meeting Held in Your Second Language, as well as two courses, Academic Writing for Publication and Teaching in Your Second Language, just for you. They’re being held online free of charge.

Register for OLBI’s language support services’ winter 2026 programming.

The APUO wishes you a happy New year and a rewarding and fulfilling Winter Term.
