1) Save the Date: May 26 Board of Governors Meeting
You are invited to join members of the APUO Executive Committee to observe the next meeting of the University of Ottawa Board of Governors (BoG), happening Tuesday, May 26 at 4:00 p.m. Register here and we will inform you of the meeting location once it is confirmed.
The BoG is one of the highest governing bodies on campus and makes decisions on university finances and operational policies that affect students’ learning conditions and our working conditions.
We invite members to attend these public meetings to see first-hand how these decisions are discussed and how our university is governed.
2) Tuition Exemption Deadlines (Spring and Summer)
As per Article 40.6.2 of the Collective Agreement, any Member’s spouse, child or dependent registered in a government-funded regular program of study1 at the University of Ottawa is entitled to an exemption from tuition fees. The conditions for this benefit are outlined in article 40.6.2.2 to article 40.6.2.5.
Members wishing to apply for this benefit must do so by the end of the first month of each session. Upcoming deadlines are as follows:
- May 31, 2026, for the spring session
- July 31, 2026, for the summer session
- September 30, 2026, for the fall session
- January 31, 2027, for the winter session
If you are planning to apply for the Spring and/or Summer sessions for your spouse, child or dependant, please be aware that the deadline of May 31 (Spring) and July 31 (Summer) is fast approaching. Do not hesitate to reach out to apuo@apuo.ca should you have any questions.
3) Reminder: Annual Reports
We remind you that, as per Article 23.1.2 of the Collective Agreement, you have from April 1 to June 1 to submit your annual reports. You are under no obligation to submit any materials prior to June 1, 2026.
We also remind you that the only information that is required to be included in the annual reports is specified in Article 23.1.2.2 of the CA:
Each Member shall include in her annual report a general description of the scholarly activities to which she intends to devote a portion of her time during the next academic year, it being understood that these may change due to circumstances not foreseen at the time of filing the report. Furthermore, a Member eligible to apply for tenure or promotion in the next academic year shall indicate her intention to do so, if known. A Member who intends to apply for tenure or promotion may submit the information related to outside evaluators as specified in articles 23.3.2.4 and 23.3.2.5.

4) Professor Larry Savage Presentation at the APUO General Assembly
During the APUO’s Winter General Assembly, held on April 30, Professor Larry Savage from Brock University was invited to present on collegial governance.
Larry Savage is a Professor in the Department of Labour Studies at Brock University whose research revolves around questions of union politics and strategy. In the past, he has served as Chief Negotiator for the Brock University Faculty Association, Chair of CAUT’s Collective Bargaining and Organizing Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Brock University Senate. Larry has published several books on the Canadian labour movement and has conducted extensive research on faculty associations specifically.

We wish to remind members that the APUO website has a Housing Ads section, where you can find listings by and for uOttawa professors and librarians who are looking for or wishing to rent housing in Ottawa.
The announcements can be sent to nicole@apuo.ca and will be posted in the language provided.
