Majority-Petition

“Insufficient numbers of new hires, sharp declines in teaching assistant positions, cuts in administrative support, and the increasing amounts of shadow work resulting from a decade of austerity measures have rendered our workloads unsustainable. Collegial governance has also been continuously eroding, giving way to disconnected, centralized management that prioritizes administrative initiatives (e.g.  $45+ million for Workday) at the expense of realizing our academic mission.

Our working conditions are both our students’ learning conditions and the bedrock upon which rests our ability to fulfill the university mission of preserving, transmitting, and developing knowledge. Ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality education and research requires that our expertise and experience be valued and that we be able to participate in  all levels of uOttawa decision-making.

The Central Administration can no longer demand that we do more with less, nor can it continue to exclude us from the fundamental decisions shaping the future of our institution.

We demand that the Employer fully engage with our proposals on addressing workload, supporting the quality of teaching and research, and democratizing decision-making.
